Trauma can occur in a variety of ways, such as surviving a natural disaster, witnessing or experiencing violence, suffering from the loss of a friend or loved one, or enduring a severe illness. Traumatic life events were found to be one of the biggest single causes of depression and can affect someone’s mental and physical well-being. If your traumatic stress reaction is getting in the way of your ability to function, you may need help from a mental health professional.

The NGCare Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides free confidential guidance and mental health support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through NGCare, you and your household members are eligible for eight free counseling sessions per issue each year. Examples of issues include, but are not limited to: marital, relationship or family counseling; stress, anxiety and depression; grief and loss; and job pressures or substance use.

Your call or online request will be answered by a licensed clinician who will listen to your concerns and if needed, quickly refer you to in-person or telehealth counseling or in the moment support. Call: 800-982-8161 TTY: 800-697-0353

You may be able to take what's known as a hardship withdrawal from your retirement account if needed to satisfy an "immediate and heavy financial need" as defined by the plan. To be eligible, your plan may require that you first use any existing loan and withdrawal options available to you.

If your plan allows, your hardship withdrawal may be "grossed up" to include any amounts reasonably anticipated to be necessary to pay any federal, state, or local income taxes or penalties resulting from the hardship distribution.

To learn more about withdrawals available to you, log in to NetBenefits, and go to Loans and Withdrawals.
